‘Same sex weddings’ / Civil Partnerships

Whether you call them gay weddings, same sex marriages or civil partnerships, there is no doubting that this is a new phenomenon.

Until now same sex couples have been shunned by Irish wedding planners who show prejudice towards them and seem more worried about how their image could be affected by being associated with gay clients.

Thankfully attitudes here are finally starting to change with the Civil Partnership Bill due to be passed in the summer; it will legalise civil partnerships for same-sex couples and finally allow them to be married in Ireland. Whilst the Irish bill falls far short of the provisions outlined in the UK’s Civil Partnership Bill it is still a great move for forward for same sex couples in Ireland.
